I begin by shooting a one or two minute video in slow motion. As the camera slows down the movement, it creates a film-like haze. Later, I re-watch the video. I’m always surprised that a straightforward action, slowed down on camera, and under the right light can come across as somewhat poetic.

Back to the process.

I review the footage again. I take screen shots. I choose the ones I like best, and then run them through a digital art program. The program further manipulates the images. At the moment, I’m using GoArt. The final stills were run through the filter Watercolor 2.

This series was inspired by the late Ukrainian filmmaker, Maya Deren who used herself as a subject in her short ethereal films.
